Picture credit: ( Reuters ) HYDERABAD: Even as India is gearing up to roll out Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V next week, a group of international experts has raised serious questions about the data discrepancies and substandard reporting of interim data of the vaccine’s phase 3 trials. Raising the red flag on discrepancies in the trials data, changes in the trial protocols, quality and accuracy of data as well as a lack of transparency, they said: “Restricted access to data hampers trust in research. Access to data underpinning study findings is imperative to check and confirm the findings claimed.”

URI Harrington School filmmakers to debut short films at Misquamicut Drive-In on May 20

Debuting a movie on the big screen is the dream of every young filmmaker. And this coming Thursday, a few dozen students in two University of Rhode Island film production classes will realize that dream when their short films are screened at the Misquamicut Drive-In in  Westerly. Facing audience limits at Edwards Hall due to the pandemic, the Harrington School of Communication and Media’s Film/Media Department rented the drive-in to allow for a larger audience while still following health guidelines. Sixteen films – ranging in length from about 5 to 20 minutes – will be shown starting just after sunset at the drive-in, 316 Atlantic Ave., which has a capacity of 160 cars.

LGBTQ elders day: New Bedford Fall River area seeks help in community

NEW BEDFORD “Honor Our LGBT Elders” Day set for May 16   recognizes members of the LGBTQ+ community who have paved the way for access and social acceptance. However, it’s also a day to shine a bright light on elders in the LGBTQ+ community who struggle to be accepted for their sexual identity. “A lot of it has to do with the fact that the LGBTQ+ individuals are invisible, especially older adults,” said SouthCoast LGBTQ+ Network marketing director and board member, Kerry Zeida. “Even trying to define the population and get good data on it is really really difficult. Older LGBTQ people are just afraid to self-identify,” he said. The SouthCoast LGBTQ+ Network focuses on three major areas: LGBTQ+ youth/homelessness, transgender community and LGBTQ+ elders.

Steven Joyce: There s nothing fair about Fair Pay Agreements

Photo / Alex Burton NZ Herald OPINION: The Government s plan to retro-fit 1970s-style public policy into a 21st century economy took another step in the last week with the announcement that old-fashioned centralised wage bargaining is to reappear after more than 30 years. The Orwellian-sounding Fair Pay Agreements are a big step backwards. Yes, they have been long-signalled but the announced proposals are far wider in scope than we were previously assured they would be. At election time the public was told the focus would be on vulnerable workers at risk of experiencing worsening conditions as a result of supply contracts being re-tendered to new companies. For example, in areas like bus driving and cleaning.

Jane Austen: Rumson-Fair Haven school presents Emma: A Pop Musical

And sing. And dance. The Tower Players, the school s performing arts group, is putting on Emma: A Pop Musical, a Clueless -esque twist on Jane Austen s classic novel featuring the music of, among others, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain and Katy Perry.  No matter what the school and no matter what the show, putting a high school production together is a lot of work. In a pandemic, with virtual rehearsals, it s even more challenging. And then, after all that additional effort, students have to perform for safety reasons in front of a small audience   usually just the actors parents. Many schools in Monmouth and Ocean counties have already put on their spring productions. All were with a limited audience, although the shows typically were streamed.
